Preschool Update

Liam is loving preschool so far! He is pretty upset that he only gets to go 2 days a week. I can imagine that to a little kid having 5 days in between when you get to go would be hard. He was asking me Sunday if he got to go to school the next day. When I told him no he said he wished he could just live at school instead of at our house. It made me feel a little better when he said he wished we could all live there with him.

We had a parent association meeting on Monday. I went not realizing that they were electing new officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and a couple others). There were probably only 15 parents there out of the 3 preschool classes so I was nervous that I might be guilted into volunteering for something even though I know that I am at my stress limit right now and can't take on anything else. Thankfully there were a few other parents willing to volunteer. At the meeting I was talking to Liam's teacher and she told me that on the first day she was sitting and talking with the kids and telling them it was okay to feel nervous and excited, that she was nervous and excited too. Liam raised his hand and said, "I'm not nervous, I'm just excited!" Because I am in Primary with him each week his comment doesn't really surprise me.

I try to get him to tell me about what he has been doing but he doesn't have much info for me. Apparently there are just too many things to tell and too many kids to remember all of their names yet. Luckily I volunteered to help out in a couple of weeks so I'll get to see what its like. He did tell me that his favorite part is recess. I guess they call it "play time" but he told me he calls it recess because he knows thats what its called. (This might give you an idea what its like to get him to do/understand anything he has his own ideas about. We spend lots of time explaining to him that we are much older and know more about most things than him...)

PS. The shiner is still here. Its sort of in it's yellowish phase so hopefully that means it will be gone soon!

Preschool

I just dropped Liam off for his first day of preschool. I have to admit that I did get a little teary on the walk home with Jonas. I am happy he gets to go to school now but its hard to believe my little guy is growing up! A lot of the kids were hanging onto their parents, not wanting them to leave. Liam found a table with an activity he liked, sat down, and pretty much forgot I was still there. I thought about hanging out a little longer to make sure he was fine (or maybe make sure I was fine) but decided to let go and let him do his thing. On the walk away from the school I almost turned around a few times to go back and peek in on him - but I didn't. Now I just can't wait to pick him up at 12 (only a half day today) so I can hear all about his day!

Liam got his first black eye...just in time for his first day of preschool. I was at work when it happened but the story Liam told me is that they were playing robots and he bumped into Jonas. That probably means they were wrestling around because whether they are playing robots, monsters or soldiers it all seems to be the same thing...beating each other up until someone gets hurt. This was taken yesterday morning so it doesn't look too bad but all day it seemed to get worse (if you click on the picture you can see it better). I tried not to say anything to him about it though. He would probably get all worked up and want me to put a band aid on it. Maybe it will make him look extra tough at school so none of the other kids will mess with him.

A little taste of HOME

A friend of ours from school told Nate about this Vietnamese market that sells A&W rootbeer! We went the next day to buy some...only $1.50 per CAN! I had my first one with my homemade pizza tonight and it was awesome.

Is there something on my face?

I was looking through recent photos and when I saw this one it made me laugh out loud (even though I've seen it before). How is it that kids (and my brother Jason) always manage to get half of whatever they are eating all over their faces?

What is it with the animals around here?

I feel like animals and bugs are flocking to our house to give us the ultimate Australian experience or something. Last night a bat got caught between this wooden window shade and our bedroom window. It was freaking out and bouncing around the window because it couldn't get out. Of course we had to take a picture of it before Nate set it free.

This was my first time seeing a bat up close! Kinda freaky...
